Color names such as cuisse de nymphe, meant to express the “color of a passionate nymph’s thigh,” evoke sensuous imagery. In this case, a voluptuous Rubens figure might come to mind, a woman with generous, pale pink thighs that express contempt for our modern ideals of beauty. Her seductive, soft skin, set off perfectly against a Maroon black 85 background, lends wings to the viewer’s imagination. The black with highlights of mahogany red not only increases the sensuality of the composition, it is its precondition.
