The Roquebrune region was one of Europe’s largest citrus producers in 1929. The architect Eileen Gray acquired terraced land there and adapted her architecture to the terraces. It is said that she protected the lemon trees and even had new ones planted. This respect for traditions and local conditions was characteristic of Eileen Gray. It should not be interpreted as historicism – the adaptation of the elements of her architecture to local mores is one of the decisive aspects that have made her designs timeless.

"Their colors are just unbelievably beautiful, whether the sun is shining, or it's rainy weather, or night, with every play of light they look different again. Incredible."
