In her book on color psychology, published in German in 1989, Eva Heller wrote that pink is thought to be tender, soft, young, sweet, naïve, and lightweight. Based on such assessments, it is no wonder that many architects mistrust pink. Light natural pinks made by mixing red ochre with soft chalk, however, do not look like strawberry ice cream or pink cake frosting; they stay in the background, modulate the light and warm the atmosphere. Pale Venetian red contrasts and softens the effects of cool dark objects, embedding them in its enchanting spell.
