Eileen Gray’s colors were chosen to support her architectural goals of creating spaces for intimacy and for the private enjoyment of nature. Balanced shades of gray were important members in this palette. This particular color adorned a central wall that connected the dining area to the terrace while separating the salon from the master bedroom. Eileen’s gray conceals the supportive wall and dissolves the inside-outside separation, thus forming an inconspicuously elegant backdrop for the Mediterranean play of light.
