Celadonite is a rare green silicate-based mineral. It is found in grayish green or olive colored aggregates, with prismatic crystallites embedded in its dull, clay masses. It has a low tinting strength, yet it has been used as a pigment since antiquity. Lightfast greens are rare, and this is the most durable green in nature. The pigment is named after a high ridge on Monte Baldo near Verona, which is where the pigment was first found. The understated olive green is the darkest color that can be exacted from the mineral.
