KT 26.046 Pessac’s green earth

A balanced stony green, delightful with chalky white and red ochre.

Referenz - Le Corbusier, paint sample Cité Frugès, 1926

Farbfunktion - materialization

Wirksamkeit - good under all lighting conditions

Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier constructed a housing settlement for workers in Pessac, near Bordeaux, between 1924 and 1926. By his own accounts, this was Le Corbusier’s first large-scale use of color to differentiate not just the interior, but also the exterior spaces. Natural greens such as this one blend in with the greens in nature, and walls painted with this subtle green are rendered less visible by merging with their surroundings. Pessac’s green earth complements white and almost all of the colors found in nature.

"Their colors are just unbelievably beautiful, whether the sun is shining, or it's rainy weather, or night, with every play of light they look different again. Incredible."
